Family Preparing

Now days most communities may be impacted in some way with natural or man-made disasters of some sort, this is why everyone needs to follow the 3 steps to get their family prepared.

family planYour family may not be together when a disaster strikes so it is essential to have a plan in place for things such as how to get to a safe place when away from home; how to go about contacting each other; how are you going to get back together after the disaster strikes; and what to do in different situations. Planning beforehand is a key to proper disaster preparedness.

Step 3: Keep informed

Keep InformedNow is the time to get you and your family informed about potential emergencies that may impact your local area. For example if you live in California it is essential that you prepare for the inevitable earthquake. Or perhaps you live on the Gulf Coast it would be foolish to just ignore the storm reports, information is power and being informed on what might happen is the first step in preparing to survive if the worst happens. Remember it is not a onetime thing it is important to stay informed as situations always change and if you keep informed you will not be caught off guard and unprepared. Make a Family Plan

Family at Table

When a disaster strikes your family might not be together so it is extremely important that you plan in advance. Do you and your kids know how to go to a safe place; and how you will get in contact with each other, especially if cell phones are not available? And do you and your kids know how and where you will get back together especially if you can’t get to or your home is destroyed? These are just a few of the basic things that you must prepare for BEFORE an emergency or disaster happens.

We will try to give you as much information as we can here at DSPnet but we will also provide you with links to other great resources on the web such as the government’s site ready.gov where you will find many great ideas and information.

Hurricanes

HurricaneA hurricane is a kind of tropical cyclone or severe tropical storm which usually develops within the southern Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico, as well as in the eastern Pacific Ocean. An average a hurricane or cyclone will be accompanied by severe thunderstorms, and in the Northern Hemisphere, they rotate in a counterclockwise direction with winds close to the earth’s surface.

Most Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coastal areas are susceptible to hurricanes. Regions of the Southwest United States and the Pacific Coast can also encounter very heavy down pours and floods every year coming from hurricanes that are spawned off the Mexican coast. The hurricane season of the Atlantic region lasts from June to November, with the peak season starting from mid-August running through late October. The hurricane season of the Eastern Pacific region begins May 15 and runs through November 30.

Earthquakes

earthquakeQuite possibly one of the most frightening and destructive natural events of nature can be a major earthquake as well as its horrible aftermath. An earthquake is an abrupt, rapid trembling of the surface of the earth, brought on by the shifting and moving within the underlying tectonic plates as they release strain which has accumulated over a long time.
